Where is this position located?

Cliffs Natural Resources - Michigan Operations is seeking candidates to work at the iron ore mining and processing facilities (Empire and Tilden) located at Palmer and Ishpeming, Michigan.

Approximately how long does it take to complete this online application?

Please allow 30 - 45 minutes to complete the online application. Incomplete applications will not be saved. You must click 'Submit' at the end of the application and wait for the 'Thank You' message in order to ensure your application was successfully submitted.

Should I apply multiple times?

Unless your qualifications change significantly you should apply only once. It typically won't hurt you, but it is taking up time with no clear benefit. Can I apply to more than one position at a time?

How long is my application valid?

Your online application is valid for one year or until the position has been filled.

What happens after I submit my online application?

One of the following events will happen after submitting an application.

1. You will be invited to the next step of the selection process (paper and pencil testing).

2. All positions will be filled and you will be notified that you are still eligible for consideration (for one year) but no positions are left to fill.

3. Cliffs will decide that you do not meet their requirements and you will be notified that you are no longer under consideration.

How long does the selection process typically last?

The selection process may take up to several months depending on the number of applications and the number of position openings. When there is a high volume of applicants and position openings, the selection process will generally consist of several rounds of hiring (i.e., not all at once). Unfortunately this means that you may be in pending status for some time. Fortunately, if you haven't heard anything yet then it means that you are still being considered. Be sure to check your email on a regular basis for further communication regarding your status.

How can I prepare for testing?

For the general job skills tests, we do offer an online workshop called TestPrep. This program covers general test taking skills and reviews the types of questions that will be given on the tests. The cost is $19 and is available on our website (www.stangdecisionsystems.com), under the Looking for Success tab, Step 2. For job knowledge tests, we recommend reading up on job-specific material related to working in an industrial environment such as the mines.

I can’t make the testing date. Can I set up a different date?

If you are unable to attend the testing session to which you are invited, please follow the confirmation link and state that you would like to be notified of future testing sessions. Additional testing sessions are not guaranteed. Special accommodations will be made for those in the military or special circumstances such as a family emergency, etc. Please send requests for accommodations to admin@stangdecisionsystems.com and include the position title and your name.

How long are my test results valid?

If you complete testing, your results are valid for 6 months. After that time you are eligible to re-apply if you do not pass on your first try.

Can I get my test results/scores?

Unfortunately, we’re not able to provide specific feedback on the Job Skills Testing or selection process in general. You will not receive your test results.

Are travel expenses reimbursable?

No. Candidates must provide their own travel and accommodations. We do contact local hotels for discounts for any candidates traveling from a distance. Hotels offering discounts for Cliffs candidates will be communicated to you when you are invited.

What is my status?

It may take several weeks for candidates to receive information regarding their status after each step in the selection process. We send out messages to all candidates who are not being considered. If you have not received an email message stating this, you are still being considered for the position. We may have thousands of applicants for one position; it takes a while to review all candidates. We appreciate your patience throughout the selection process.
